Addendum to NASP® Bullseye Range Calculator
Important things to consider
Calculator assumptions
- The range calculation is based on the number of targets being used. Minimum distance is the width along the target line, not the shooting distance or total facility depth.
- Paper target faces are calculated from the number of targets and flights, with an additional 10%, rounded up to whole faces.
- Crossbar quantities assume 10-foot crossbars.
- Main range curtain quantities include an overlap allowance. Maintain at least 3 feet of overlap between adjoining curtains to avoid gaps; add side wall curtains as needed for the layout.
- Yellow tape quantities exclude the extra 80 feet per range side needed if taping the sides.
Arrow curtains and side walls
For safety reasons, NASP® strongly recommends side walls on all NASP® tournament ranges unless the range runs wall to wall in the facility.
- Add the curtain and supports needed for side walls to the main range quantities. The side wall calculation assumes each wall is 60 feet long.
- The side wall upright count assumes the wall connects to an existing range upright. A freestanding wall needs an additional end support.
- Consider any additional curtain walls needed to block pedestrian traffic from the range. In some circumstances, NASP® recommends a double curtain on these walls as an extra precaution.
Lane officials
Plan for one lane official per 3–5 targets. The calculator shows an optimal count of one per 3 targets and a minimum count of one per 5 targets, rounded up.
Set-up supplies
- Tape measures – 300-foot, 50-foot, and small 25-foot measures for layout, shorter measurements, and squaring ranges.
- Chalk pens or chalk sticks – Mark measurements during setup.
- Floor tape and a knife – Yellow for the range and red for coaches alley. Painter's tape may also be used.
- Paint rollers – Smooth down floor tape. The handle can also help set lane numbers at a consistent height.
- Large and fine-point markers – Mark lines, sight windows, and lane numbers.
- Step ladder or scaffold – Hang curtains, banners, and flags.
- Lane number clips and zip ties – Hang lane numbers, banners, and flags, and close curtain gaps. Bring snips for removing zip ties.
- American flags – Include with curtain setup supplies.
- Curtain hook push rod – An optional tool to help attach curtain hooks to crossbars.
